It is enormously motivating to be involved in projects that we know can make a difference in people's lives. I hope that Natt can help give strength and courage to those exposed to violence, and that it can be a wake-up call for our entire society that we must look for signs of violence, and report if we suspect anything. NIGHT is based on extensive research work an personal experiences having breathed violence: -Hoping that "Night" can become a starting point for us to talk more about partnerviolence. The goal is to start a conversation in the cinemas that the audiences bring back to society and into lunch room conversations at work.

Director statement: I wrote, directed and produced Night together with DOP Anders Hoft. I did the soundrecording, the costume, props, set design, and was the driver. Anders secured the amazing camerawork. Trude Lirhus eisted the film with perfection, Håkon Lammetund sound designed and mixed, renowned jazz musician Nils Petter Molvær composed the music. We have a duty to report Mona J. Hoel says that there is a lot most of us don't know about the film's themes: - That's why we need to talk more about what violence in close relationships is, how it can manifest and how we can see signs of it. It is particularly important that we talk about the fact that if we see signs of this, then we actually have a statutory duty to report. Domestic violence is not a private matter, and we cannot allow ourselves to think "it was probably nothing". The duty we have to report to the police if we suspect violence is as natural as stopping to help a car driver who has had an accident. Staggering calculation
Hoel is concerned that violence in close relationships must be talked about more, also in more general ways: - Conversations about this tend to revolve around correctional services, health care and legal assistance, but violence in close relationships is also politics and social economics. The calculation of what violence in close relationships costs the state of Norway every year is staggering, with everything from hospital bills to lost value creation when children and adults drop out of work and school. So one thing is that it is morally right to prevent domestic violence, but if the work is to get the lift it deserves, the conversations at political level must also be about whether it pays off.
